Monument to honor our Veterans



The Friends of Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park raised funds to

erect a monument to honor all of our Veterans.

Bricks can still be purchased (4" x 8") are $60 (replica) $30 and

corporate bricks (8" x 8") are $500.  To purchase a brick or more

Lake Blackshear.

Tall shady pine trees, large lakes and fishing ponds offer an outdoor landscape that is easily enjoyed in much of Crisp County by stepping out one's back door.

Most prominent among the recreation areas of the country is the Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, which offers more than 1,322 acres for camping, swimming, fishing, golfing, boating, and enjoying nature.

Located on Highway 280 between Cordele and Americus, and including the beautiful Lake Blackshear, the park now boasts a convention center, along with a dining and lodging resort, cabins, disc golf course, model plane flying field, a marina and a championship 18-hole golf course.

Crisp County Recreation Department.

In 2000 Cordele and Crisp County developed its leisure opportunities complex complete with a gym, several special activity rooms and two full-size football fields, one of which has been dedicated in honor of long-time Recreation Department Director Cary Cason. This facility is located on North Fifth Street.

Also relatively new is the 78 acre baseball and softball complex at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Pecan Street. Nine fields currently are in use and plans call for an additional five in the future.

Not only is this facility available for youth league games, but it also allows tournament play on weekends which produces extra revenue for the county.

The CCLO also offers sporting events for our youth, including softball, baseball, football, soceer, cheerleading and dance.

Crisp Area Arts Alliance.

The Crisp Area Arts Alliance mission is to be an active participant in the development and growth of cultural activities in the community.  It accomplished its mission by providing programming, promoting local artists, presenting programs and special events and partnering with other groups in the community to encourage participation in the arts on all levels. CAAA currently provides free art lessons to elementary students through its Arts in Education Program, as well as to the home school students in the community. Extra-curricular youth art activities as well as painting classes for the adults are offered on a regular basis. Also available at the CAAA facility are piano lessons. Local artists can display their work free of charge, and anyone in the community can rent the CAAA facility for special events. For information call CAAA 229-273-6242.
